Clayface fell 57% in its second weekend and lost the No. 1 spot, but it has reached about $83 million worldwide. That leaves it short of break-even but not in trouble.

Halloween Weekend Results

The film earned an estimated $10.4 million domestically over Halloween weekend. That put it just behind A24's Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, which took the weekend with about $10.6 million. The two were close. Clayface won Halloween Saturday itself, with $4.2 million to the documentary's $3.6 million. Monday's final numbers will settle which film took the weekend.

Variety reported that Clayface made $3.3 million on its second Friday, finishing No. 2 behind the documentary's $3.56 million. Estimates are not final, and Halloween falling on a Saturday made it the third-lowest weekend of the year.

A Softer Fall Than It Looks

A 57% drop is steep, but it beats DC's recent record. One outlet reported the film is holding up better than Supergirl in the same frame, even though Supergirl opened higher. Overseas, the drop was only 34.7%. The film earned $12.4 million internationally, lifting its foreign total to $38.9 million across 76 markets.

Add the $44.1 million domestic total after ten days and the worldwide figure is $83 million. The film earned an A- CinemaScore, which suggests a strong audience reaction.

The Profit Question

Clayface reportedly cost about $44 million to make. Its domestic total now roughly matches that budget. Screen Rant puts break-even at about $110 million worldwide, so the film is around $27 million away.

Forecasts are cautious. Box office analyst Gitesh Pandya has suggested a domestic finish near $65 million. Fan-site trackers are more optimistic, floating $125 to $135 million worldwide, but those are unofficial projections. If the film reaches that range, it would clear break-even.

What to Watch Next

Three things will decide Clayface's final outcome:

  • Monday's final numbers, which settle the weekend ranking.
  • Weekday strength after Halloween, since the film rose 48% on discount Tuesday last week.
  • How far overseas earnings grow, since they are holding up better than domestic ones.

Before Halloween, one assessment said Warner Bros. may finally have a significant box office success in more than a year. A $83 million total after 10 days doesn't quite make it a hit. It does make Clayface a respectable, low-risk bet for DC's darker side.
