The rumours were true. A24 has officially confirmed that Alex Garland will write and direct a live-action adaptation of the beloved video game 'Elden Ring'. This announcement comes after weeks of speculation and marks another ambitious gaming adaptation for the indie studio.

Garland, known for his visually stunning films like 'Ex Machina' and 'Civil War', will tackle the dark fantasy world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin. The game, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide since its 2022 release, immerses players in the mysterious Lands Between – a realm filled with dragons, mythical creatures, and ancient mysteries.

"Following successes with titles such as Last of Us and Minecraft, A24 is intensifying its focus on adaptations from the gaming world," highlighting the studio's growing commitment to video game properties. This project joins A24's upcoming 'Death Stranding' adaptation, signalling their serious investment in gaming IP.

Peter Rice will produce alongside Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, George R.R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis. With 'Elden Ring Nightreign' launching May 30th, the timing couldn't be better for expanding this beloved universe to cinema.
